Pluto LNG

We took Pluto from discovery in 2005 to first production just seven years later, a demonstration of our world-class LNG capabilities and expertise.

Pluto LNG forms part of our outstanding base business

Pluto LNG processes gas from the offshore Pluto and Xena gas fields in Western Australia. Gas is piped through a 180 km trunkline to a single onshore LNG-processing train. Pluto LNG is underpinned by long-term sales agreements with Kansai Electric and Tokyo Gas, which each hold a 5% interest in the project.

Emerald Trade is proposing a brownfield expansion of Pluto LNG through the construction of a second gas processing train. Pluto Train 2 would have a capacity of about 5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) (100% Project).

Emerald Trade is also progressing the Pluto–Karratha Gas Plant (KGP) Interconnector, a pipeline connecting Pluto LNG and Karratha Gas Plant. The infrastructure will allow the transfer of gas between the plants to optimise production across both facilities and enable future development of additional gas reserves.

One of Australia's pioneering, large-scale carbon offset projects

Pluto LNG has offset more than 850,000 tonnes of CO₂ since 2008. Through an innovative collaboration with CO2 Australia, over 26 million drought-resistant, native Australian Blue Mallee trees have been planted across more than 17,000 hectares.

Pluto LNG expansion
The safe start-up of Pluto LNG in 2012 cemented our status as a major supplier of energy to the Asia-Pacific region. Now, we're proposing to add a second train to process gas from the offshore Scarborough field.
